From an early age until my mid twenties one of my favourite pastimes was doodling with pencils and felt tip pens. After meeting an artist who had explored Pyrography, I found my interest grow and I purchased my own artists pyrography unit. Following some experimentation on various wood surfaces, I produced a series of birds and wildlife on Birch plywood. This gave me hours of pleasure and to my surprise an occasional source of income.
In 2004 I finally decided to take my art interest to the next level and enrolled for a Higher art course followed by an HNC in art and design. It was during these two years that I was introduced to an in-depth study of portraiture and mixed-media. In the development of the mixed-media unit I discovered that I could pyrograph on watercolour paper, which allowed for the addition of either watercolour or acrylic paint. I am now exploring new combinations and finding each new discovery more exciting than the last.
